Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible

This policy applies to the TauState iOS application and the website taustate.app. The party responsible under the GDPR is named in the Imprint (German).

2. Data the app collects

None that leaves your device. TauState has no servers of its own and sends no data about you to us or to any third party. Training, statistics, and speech recognition run fully offline on your device. The app does not gather identifiers, contacts, location, usage analytics, or any other personal information.

3. Data stored locally on your device

To make the app useful, some information is saved locally on your device only:

• Your progress, experience points, level, rank, streaks, achievements and game history.
• Your settings, sound and haptics preferences, and training configurations you create.
• An optional display name you may enter for your profile.
• Your reminder settings. Reminders are local notifications that iOS schedules directly on your device; there is no push server.

This data never leaves your device and is never sent to us or to any third party. Deleting the app removes it. You can also export your own history as a CSV or JSON file at any time, directly from the app, that file is created on your device and shared only where you choose to send it.

4. Microphone and speech recognition

TauState offers an optional voice input mode so you can speak your answers. When you enable it:

• Speech recognition runs on-device only. Audio is processed locally and is never uploaded to any server.
• No recordings are stored. Audio is used in the moment to recognise the number you said, then discarded.
• The microphone is only active while voice mode is in use. iOS asks for your permission first, and you can revoke it any time in Settings.

5. No tracking or advertising

TauState contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics frameworks, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We do not build profiles and we do not use cookies in the app.

6. TestFlight (test builds)

While TauState is distributed through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may collect certain information, such as crash logs, basic device data, and usage statistics, to operate the testing program. Apple is responsible for that collection. See Apple's Privacy Policy and the terms shown in the TestFlight app.

If you send us feedback (a comment, possibly a screenshot) or a crash report through TestFlight, Apple makes it available to us via App Store Connect, together with technical details such as device model and iOS version and, for feedback, possibly your email address. We use this information solely to find bugs and improve the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and delete it once it is no longer needed for that purpose.

7. Website hosting (Cloudflare)

The taustate.app website is a static informational site. It is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, and delivered through Cloudflare's global network. When you access the site, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data, in particular your IP address, the time of access, the requested resource, the amount of data transferred, and browser and operating-system information, in order to deliver the site and protect the infrastructure against attacks.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A data processing agreement is in place with Cloudflare, and Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; transfers to the US rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). We do not store these logs ourselves, do not analyse them and do not combine them with any other data; how long Cloudflare keeps them is determined by Cloudflare's own rules.

8. Local storage in your browser

The website uses no cookies and no tracking technologies. The only thing stored is your language choice, kept in your browser's localStorage so it persists between visits. This storage is technically necessary for the service you request and does not require consent; it cannot be used to recognise you across other websites. You can remove the entry at any time via your browser settings.

9. Contacting us by email

If you email us, we process your email address, your name (if given), the content of your message and the time it was sent in order to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns use of the app, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Our mailbox is hosted by Apple (iCloud Mail, Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Cork, Ireland). We delete your message once your request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations require otherwise.

If you send us feedback or an error report from within the app (Settings, “Send Feedback” or “Error Log”), the app only opens a pre-filled email in your mail app; nothing is sent until you tap Send yourself. The feedback email contains the app version. The error report additionally contains the iOS version, device model, language setting, the time it was created and the error messages that recently occurred in the app; it contains no identifiers that uniquely identify you or your device. You see the full text before sending and can edit it.

10. Children

Because TauState collects no personal data, it is safe for users of all ages. The app gathers no information about children or anyone else.

11. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Since the app sends no data to us, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or delete apart from emails and TestFlight feedback you have sent us yourself; the app's data lives only on your device and is fully under your control.

Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object to that processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). An informal message to legal@taustate.app is enough.

12. Changes to this policy

If the app's or the website's functionality changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy will be updated and the date above revised.
